Fergal Tansey BSc, PhD, MIEI is a food industry consultant based at NovaUCD. He is Managing Director of a consultancy campus company, which offers thermal process validation services and food safety and risk analysis expertise to the food industry. He is a lecturer to post-graduate students on the principles of thermal process engineering of foods, as part of the MEngSc Degree in Food Engineering and the MSc Degree in Food Safety and Risk Analysis (BSEN40250).
He was a Lead Project Manager of a major Food for Health Research Initiative (FHRI) funded project Safe and Healthy Foods, which developed a benchmark repository National Food Microbial Database of Ireland for foodborne pathogens (http://www.microbialdatabase.ie).
He was also a Lead Project Manager of a major European Union Framework Programme 6 (EU FP6) funded project SigmaChain, which investigated the traceability of microbial and chemical contaminants in generic food chains (http://www.sigmachain.eu).
He previously worked in technical and managerial roles with Teagasc, Glanbia PLC and Unilever PLC.
